I'm coming to the conclusion that this won't be the century of the Chinese, simply because of lack of energy, or, more specifically, oil.
Right now, China is using about 1.7 barrels/person/year, with a population estimated at about 1.3 Bil.

Increasing their per capita consumption by 1B/Y, not even doubling where they are now, comes out to almost 4 million more barrels/day than they are currently using.
Right now, the world is pumping as fast as it can, and all the refineries are running 100%, too. Where is the extra production and refinery capacity gonna come from? I'm not sure the capacity is there.
