Cleric rules it is unlawful for woman to work as pilot

gulf-news.com

The cleric said this work would require the woman to travel alone without a mahram (male guardian) accompanying her and this would lead to women mixing with men which is not acceptable.

In my view, Saudi Arabia treats half their local population as slaves, and the world should not allow that. The men should not have the right to put restrictions on the women (such as he above). Outside forces should compel them to change. I think that is morally correct, regardless of which entity it is that forces them to change. I don't condone slavery.

Welcome to Vietnam redux. It was incomprehensible then, it's incomprehensible now. There is no "win", because the mission wasn't honorable. The hawks and semi-hawks (the blind patriots) will drag this thing out as long as they can, because they don't want to "lose". They will self-deceive, they will embrace and promote any fiction because they just can't grasp that the US is wrong and not omnipotent and is not morally superior. They are "patriots" first, foremost and only (love it or leave it).

They disgust me. Their arrogance have led us into this mess.

The rest of us shake our heads just can't figure out why all these people are being maimed and dying, to no effect.

That is the hardest thing to take. Tonite, they showed a guy who lost his arm below the elbow, his head has a huge dent and half his teeth are gone. There are too many who are coming home maimed. Its a crime for which Bush should pay through impeachment.
