Cockfighting was illegal in Oklahoma until 1963, when a judge ruled that chickens are not animals and therefore unprotected by anticruelty laws.

*Though cockfighting was banned in Oklahoma from 1910 through 1963, until that appeals court judge overturned the ban with that astonishing declaration that chickens are not animals. Most states banned cockfighting back in the 19th century...

Is cockfighting no different than raising chickens for food ?
