Libertarian Party Offers A Real Plan for Iraq

President Bush Urged to Accept Commonsense Exit Strategy

(Washington, D.C.) In an address to the nation last night, President George W. Bush presented a change in mission for Iraq, moving away from Iraqi liberation and the threat of weapons of mass destruction to an ongoing hunt for terrorists. While the violence in Iraq has been growing, the Bush administration has remained stubbornly silent on any plans for withdrawal or success in Iraq. In his latest address, President Bush continued down his path of vague missions and plans. He specifically stated:

“Our mission in Iraq is clear. We're hunting down the terrorists. We're helping Iraqis build a free nation that is an ally in the War on Terror. We're advancing freedom in the broader Middle East.”

The Libertarian Party strongly disagrees with President Bush’s unclear mission: We are not “hunting down the terrorists.” We are enabling them and providing Iraqi insurgents with a common enemy. And we are not advancing freedom. Instead we are advancing chaos in the Middle East.

While the current leaders of this nation, the Republicans and Democrats, continue their political bickering over a lack of a plan for Iraq, the Libertarian Party is now offering a path toward ending the conflict in Iraq. The Exit Strategy for Iraq is available at www.lp.org/plan.

This thoroughly researched strategy establishes a timeline for withdrawal, along with future assurances for the people of Iraq that will empower them with the resources necessary for their nation’s future success.

Additionally, those who support the exit strategy offered by the Libertarian Party may choose to electronically sign onto the plan at www.lp.org/plan in order to create a groundswell of support for this commonsense approach to ending the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

“I urge all Americans to review the Libertarian solution to the occupation of Iraq and show their support by signing onto the plan,” stated Joe Seehusen, executive director of the National Libertarian Party. “Our troops are in harm’s way every hour of every day in Iraq. President Bush’s plan is to avoid setting a goal for success, and thus to avoid failure. Our troops, their families and the people of Iraq deserve a strategy for success.”
