Thanks for that considered response. I will print it out and chew on it.
Perhaps I should not be too hasty.
Will you please send up a flare when you REALLY feel the time is right?
Thanks
C

>>OK a tiny bit of NVG.UN too which was a mistake

Kastel, why a mistake ? Was it just because they reduced their payout ?

I know nothing about income trusts. I see the choice they offer as a pay-out of a percentage of free cash flow, as opposed to its profitable re-investment with the ultimate pay-out being in the future. For example on Stockwatch someone pointed out that NOV over the past five years has provided a pay-out higher than any trust.... and this was a miner that FAILED to find new ore and therefore could not re-invest their cash flows profitably. (Is there not a tax benefit in the company re-investing its cash flows without incurring a tax liability for the shareholder.... kinda like an RRSP ? Would I not rather NOV had found new ore for profitable re-investment like IMN or AUR ?)

Is this valid ? Can you explain the benefits of trusts in any other way ?
