Very interesting, tech. In your post you noted another gotcha imposed by the asymmetry that presently characterizes broadband loops:

The SPs' continued adherence to the asymmetrical model, even beyond the period when it actually made sense (or the SPs didn't know any better) will be responsible for far more shortcomings than this, but your point is well taken, nonetheless.

One aspect of the device's use, which may not be apparent at first, is the terms of use policies that SPs have you agree to upon signing up for their broadband services. Do they stipulate that the loop they are providing to you cannot be used for the retransmission of copyrighted content or program material? If they don't now, you can bet they soon will.
