Let me hasten to respond to those among you who might be inclined to interpret these top timers' bullishness in a contrarian way, and therefore to draw bearish conclusions. Insofar as contrarian analysis is helpful, and I think it is, it comes by taking the contrary position to the consensus among a much larger group of advisers than just nine advisers.

In this regard, I note that the consensus among the ten worst performing market timing newsletters over the last decade is quite bearish.

To be bearish yourself, therefore, you in effect have to bet that the last decade's worst are more likely to be right than the last decade's best.

Any takers?"

Fed lending today - enormous amounts! 3b was enough for 03,
6b for 05, now it's 9b? Obviously, securities lending is losing
effectiveness.
