(Prior to that they have a variety of animal rights and extensions of the mother's rights). I know of no way to identify that exact moment, somewhere after age one and before age five. It would also vary with individuals. For legal reasons an exact moment is highly desired. Birth is an obvious choice for several reasons mostly because it is an obvious event prior to self awareness. If birth is defined as the moment that the cord is cut it also solves a few exceptional cases (such as surgery on a fetus that is then put back into the womb). TP
