Just want to point out that the 1990s Japan bust was preceded by bubbles in BOTH stocks and real estate.

Japan was a nationwide across the board significant overvaluation of assets. Not the case at all in the USA today. Most small caps I look at RE or carry trade related are sitting near their lowest prices of the past 6 or 7 years. Half of the USA RE market is dirt cheap. Will USA succeed by encouraging continued spending and population growth via immigration twp things lacking in Japan during their bust? Only time will tell.
