"What does making hay have to do with judging the rationality of our leader's current statements?"

Things have been run through the political gammat enought. The liberal strong hold started to deteriorate in the nineties and has now collapsed. The conservative rally of the early part of this decade is begining to lose pace, for the very reasons you gave.

I don't have a problem with making it up as they go because we are engaged in powerfully uncertain times that are changing the world as we have always known it. But, I agree with you that the spokespersons are much too eager to prophesy conditions that simply are not credible. Frankly I don't thing we will EVER be OUT or coming home or whatever because cultures have clashed and enmeshed very deeply and that trend is only going to continue. Distinct mono-cultures bounded by borders are a thing of the past.

Making hay means that liberals should be establishing solid venues based on sound principles of change, renewal, and social evolution... far too much energy is being wasted trying to use smoke and mirrors to caste insinuation and make inuendo seem like a valid conclusion of events that have not been substantiated, ... for what Outcomes??? Just to make the current administration fail, and then what? ... in other words the opportunity to make hay that could bring us into a better world is being wasted by extreme polarized partisan bickering.
