My opinion of his statement is that it is untrue. Not every person who voted for war powers was voting to "send Bush to war". It was also a tool to be used as a real threat to get Saddam to comply. To put teeth behind then diplomacy. And only if necessary commit US troops.

Bush had also promised he would only go to war as a last resort, remember? And go through the whole UN process and try and work with them. Now we know he was just pretending to deal with the Un seriously. He gave them a snow-job and had already decided to invade.

Now that Bush's whole plan has failed the the Downing Street memos have surfaced things become a lot clearer. It was the wrong way to go to war, but there could have been a right way to remove Saddam.
