I don't think you understand it. The insurgents are acting on a religious and political mission to wipe out any impure groups - Christians, Jews, Shi'a, Kurds, and any group that does not demonstrate fundamental interpretations of Islam.

Did you support the KKK movements in the US against any non Aryian influence? Of course not. The entire Muslim world lives in a state of totalitarian religious control. We can't offend the majority of Sunni controlled states, but I think the US has a responsibility to help 200 million Shi'a, Sunni Kurds, and moderate groups to enjoy a stable place in the Islamic world.

Just because the press can't differentiate one group from the next does not mean that we should not try to understand the real problems in this balance of power.

If you want greater influence in African states, how does that negate the importance of the people we are trying to help in the ME?

Iran. Bush says the new leader of Iran, product of a bogus election, is a TERRORIST. The Bush admin is trying to prove that the new Prez is the same guy in the photo from the embassy hostage crisis wayyyyyyyyy back when.

Terrorist + Nukes = excuse for war.

Perhaps Rove and Bush's yammerings about 911 had less to do with making excuses for Iraq than making excuses for future excursions into Iran.
