You might be right about the USSR. Nothing stokes the fires of competition like a big old enemy to galvanize a nation. That is my secret hope. Now that our new enemy is the Middle East and it's oil kingpins, maybe that will stoke the fires of innovation around technologies to get us off the oil once and for all. In 2006, the car with the highest sales in America, the Camry, will start being sold with a hybrid option. That is a watershed event, because it brings hybrids into the mainstream. The Prius has been a considered a novelty and its sales are through the roof. Can you imagine what the Camry Hybrid will do to this industry? I predict that Hybrid sales are going to really explode starting next year when the Camry Hybrid comes out.
