Because it's wrong.... France lost out geopolitically because, unlike Britain, she wasn't an island. Historically, French leaders (at least from the XVIIth century on) had to choose between defending their borders with the Netherlands and Germany, and waging naval wars against Britain, Spain and Portugal... There's a French witticism that says, On ne peut pas être au four et au moulin...


Yes, one can not make money and still have time to fight. That's why principles take a back seat in France. That's why I consider them a weak people. Its okay. They still have great food, great cities and a great culture. A nation can't have everything. ;~)
