The Accord is not the kind of hybrid people want. The thing Honda and GM and Ford are missing is that people buy hybrids because they want higher MPG. Duh! Instead, GM and Ford make hybrid SUVs and Honda makes a hybrid V6 to give it more power, but barely more mpg. Meanwhile, Toyota builds a Prius that gets 50-60 mpg and steals the show. Next, they take their Camry, which already gets 35mpg or higher, and they'll get it up to 50mpg with the hybrid option. Camry's were the #1 selling vehicle in the U.S. last year. With a hybrid option it will go gangbusters even more. There is no competition worth of the name.

Anyway, it does all depend on the pricing, but one thing Toyota has proven is that the demand is so high right now for hybrids because the upper middle class and above want them at any price. The reason, in my opinion, is that we are all sick to death that our gov't hasn't attacked the war on terror at its roots by getting America off the oil dependency. And Americans are sick to death that our gov't seems to be ignoring most of the scientific evidence that global warming is being caused by humans. So hybrids seem to be a good way for people to feel like they are doing something when their gov't is not.

Bring the prices down by $3K or pass a bill to give a $3K tax credit and all of middle America will own one. I guarantee it.

The Prius has been a considered a novelty and its sales are through the roof. Can you imagine what the Camry Hybrid will do to this industry? I predict that Hybrid sales are going to really explode starting next year when the Camry Hybrid comes out.

Depends on the pricing.

And production rates.
