I have not played serious poker for years. But apparently there are a lot of untutored players jumping on this new trend and ripe for the pickin...

I like blackjack and baccarat. Baccarat is only a 1.5% disadvantage and can often be quite lucrative with betting strategies and judicious parlays. Letting a 10 dollar bet ride for three wins is not uncommon...and that gives a 70 dollar profit on a 10 dollar investment. I generally use a betting strategy termed "Oscars grind" mixed with a D'alambert. I often play both player and bank simultaneously at Baccarat and often get a modest profit.

"I've been playing online poker and am holding my own but I don't think it would be even remotely possible for me to make even a modest living at it, don't have the mind for it

Why do you say that, redfish?

The fact that you have an interest is a huge fact. Read some books and practice a bit. Remember that the WSOP winners rotate amongst the same people. Ergo: there are profound skills involved.

One of the things I recommend is to leave perhaps 20% of you income in a gambling fund. Use it as you see fit. Ideally it should keep growing and growing...RIGHT! Anyone can inprove where skill is involved. POKER IS SKILL. Read some books...

And try to bypass the small games where the rake screws you.

I cut my teeth on 7 card stud 30 some years ago. I cannot compete with millions of brilliant kids in "Hold Em" unless I bone up on the new wave. I've done it, and I am ready to sheer some sheep.
