The least educated (like those who believe that the world was created 10,000 years ago) vote overwhelmingly Republican. Folks that live in the 18th and 19th century (like those who live in Mississippi, Alabama and other intellectually, culturally, socially and economically backward states) also vote solidly Republican.

The righwing is at war with education in case you hadn't noticed. And the press. They don't like teachers teaching history or science or reality in general. The rightwing wants kids to believe that: - Evolution doesn't exist - Babies are brought by storks - Sex is wrong - Condoms don't work - Vietnam was a noble cause - Peace movements are all traitors - JFK was responsible for Vietnam - McCarthy was right - Reagan saved the world - Clinton was a terrible failure - Other countries don't matter - Global warming doesn't exist - Bush is anointed by God to attack Iraq and save the world
