NBC Nightly News Suggests “The First Several U.S. Presidents Might Have Been Called Terrorists,” Just Like Ayatollah Khomeini's Radical Hostage Takers In Iran

Sickening Moral Equivalence From NBC Anchor Brian Williams

Remote controls flew at TV sets across America last night as NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams came out of an Andrea Mitchell story on whether Iran’s new President was one of the captors of U.S. hostages in 1979 during Ayatollah Khomeini’s Islamic revolution. Williams suggested a sickening moral equivalence between the Iranian radicals and America’s Founding Fathers.

Both, he thought, could be called terrorists: “Andrea, what would it all matter if proven true? Someone brought up today the first several U.S. presidents were certainly revolutionaries and might have been called terrorists at the time by the British Crown, after all.” Mitchell replied: “Indeed, Brian.” (Brian Williams worked in the White House during the Carter administration, beginning as a White House intern.)

This is not the first time Williams has mangled a historical analogy. During MSNBC’s live coverage of precision bombing of Baghdad on March 21, 2003, Williams played amateur historian: “That vista on the lower-left looks like Dresden, it looks like some of the firebombing of Japanese cities during World War II.” The Allied bombing of Dresden in February 1945 destroyed much of that city and killed tens of thousands of civilians.

This is also not the first time NBC has compared American revolutionaries to terrorists. Last November 9, Today co-host Matt Lauer interviewed Lynne Cheney on her children’s book about the Revolutionary War: “Let me talk about this idea that a rag-tag group – not well-fed, not well-clothed, completely under-equipped as compared to this great British army and the Hessians – could accomplish this. And let me ask you to think about what is going on in Iraq today, where the insurgents – not well equipped, smaller in numbers – the greatest army in the world is their opposition. What’s the lesson here?” A shocked Mrs. Cheney replied: “Well, the difference of course is who’s fighting on the side of freedom.”

This is also not the first time NBC has tried to ruin Independence Day, although Williams has trumped 2003, when NBC promoted their July 4th edition of Dateline: “They had good jobs, making good money, but now they’ve lost almost everything. An American nightmare: The new homeless. All new Dateline, Friday.”

SCOTUS: Left begins character assassination campaign
Progress For America ^ | July 1, 2005 | Progress For American

PFA: WE TOLD YOU SO!

Predictable Left Begins Judicial Character Assassination Campaign;

Day 1 Brings Step 1 of Tar & Feather 10-Step Plan

Within just one hour of the announcement of a Supreme Court vacancy, liberal groups were whipping their members into a frenzy as PFA predicted in Tar & Feather, Inc.: A Liberal 10-Step Plan for Judicial Character Assassination. For the Left, it seems the sky is falling:

Planned Parenthood screamed that “Women’s Health and Safety [are] on the Line.”

People For The American Way breathlessly claimed “our very national identity hangs in the balance and progressives must be loud and clear.”

The Alliance For Justice echoed that sentiment, stating “Individual rights and freedoms hang in the balance.”

NARAL: “Unless we act quickly and forcefully, it will be filled by a right-wing extremist bent on ending a woman’s right to choose.”

MoveOn.org predicts a nominee who’s an “extremist who will undermine the rights of individuals and families.”

National Abortion Federation warned that women would have to “sacrifice their lives and health by having back alley abortions in order to end an unwanted pregnancy.” They have even demanded “a candidate who will win a consensus of at least 60 votes in the Senate.”

Liberals recently launched baseless attacks against highly respected judges who eventually received bipartisan support for lifetime appointments to appellate courts.

Judge Priscilla Owen was criticized by liberal leaders for having an “extreme judicial philosophy” but she received 81 votes (26 Democrats) for cloture & 56 votes for confirmation. Judge Janice Brown was called “unfit to serve” by liberal leaders but she received 65 (10 Democrats) votes for cloture & 56 votes for confirmation.

“We told you so,” said Brian McCabe, PFA’s president. “We’ve read the Left’s playbook. Liberals are masters at talking out of both sides of their mouths – while they pretend to want a nominee who will bring the country together, their rhetoric serves no other purpose than ripping people apart.”

Progress for America, Inc. (“PFA”) is a national grassroots organization dedicated to supporting a conservative issue agenda that will benefit all Americans. PFA is the leading conservative group working on the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy and for an up or down vote on the president’s judicial nominees. PFA has pledged an initial $18 million to combat dishonest attacks on any U.S. Supreme Court nominee.

Kennedy Slams Unnamed Supreme Court Nominee ............................

ScrappleFace ^ | July 2, 2005 | Scott Ott

(2005-07-02) -- Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-MA, today criticized President George Bush's as-yet-unnamed replacement for retiring Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor as a "brutal, Bible-thumping, right-wing ideologue who hates minorities, women and cocker spaniels."

"He or she is clearly outside the mainstream of American values," said Sen. Kennedy. "President Bush has again ignored the Senate's 'advice and consent' role, forcing Democrats to filibuster this outrageous nominee."

The Massachusetts Senator said his aides have already discovered "reams of memos" showing that the man or woman Mr. Bush will appoint has "a history of abusing subordinates, dodging military service, hiring undocumented workers, spanking his or her children and rolling back the clock on human rights to the days when the Pharaohs ruled Egypt with an iron fist."

The Senator's office issued a news release to the media documenting the allegations against the potential high court judge, with a convenient blank line allowing reporters to fill in the nominee's name as soon as that information is leaked.
