Re: Is this a major pull-in by Intel???

Ahh, if only Elmer could read his own links ....

The program, which is expected to get under way within two to three months, will allow businesses to test drive the dual-core processor Xeon platforms during the second half of 2005.

Servers based on them won't officially go on sale until 2006.

This sudden "release" was probably lawyer driven, after Intel's outside counsel gave their initial analysis of the case (you guys haven't got a chance) and they demanded some window dressing to attempt to cover up the fact that Intel is lagging AMD by well over a year in server technology (while maintaining a 90% market share).

No, it's a joke single-socket Smithfield Pentium D "server". Can't wait to see the benchmark comparisons!!! And we've already witnessed just how stable the Smithfields are during the THG test.

No dual core Xeon servers until 2006, Elmo:

[ Make that Q4, in "2 or 3 months" for a "test-drive". I hope the drivers bring plenty of coolant with them. ]

Servers based on them won't officially go on sale until 2006. But by that time, Intel figures businesses will be ready to deploy them and software developers will have had time to test and tune their wares as well.

"Help stop global warming - use AMD64...
..and save big money on your server-room energy costs as well !
Look for the green AMD logo on your computer system"

..would to at least seem like the right type of marketing approach for AMD.

The PR is IMO undisputable and easily proved !
