240 volt single phase gives 415 volts between the phases for a three phase supply. In industry, higher voltages are used too. Lots of countries use the same definitions.. tneb.org There is general agreement that since we joined the European Community that regulations and codes have gone crazy. Heaps and heaps of rules and regulations. BS7871 is OK though. A lot of it is common sense. Several guys (multi skilled, not just electricians) I know who have received nasty belts get shaky when dealing with wiring circuits. They will no longer work in electrical hot conditions.
