The Gallup poll is well known, you may find it here, but to read the full results you need to signup with Gallup:

This site has some interesting additional info:

You are including in your "figures" of conservatives, much of the Roman Catholic Church. Which, as you might know, has MANY standard bearers of the Democratic party. One of the biggest <pun maybe?> of which is Teddy Kennedy.

Traditionaly Catholics are Democrats, I agree. They also happen to (from the Pope down) support evolution. The Catholic Church seems to have learned (perhaps from the earth-centric cosmology debacle?) not to be anti-science. Oddly enough it is some of the Protestant churchs spawned by the Enlightenment era that have their heads firmly in the sand on this issue.

The one fairly sold block of Democratic support that is out to lunch on this issue is religiously conservative southern blacks. They vote Democrat for other reasons, but are well aligned with the much larger religiously conservative white block that is strongly Republican.

So anyway you dice it, while significant blocks of Liberals are muddled on aspects of modern economics and some aspects of social behavior, the majority of Conservatives are clueless on a much wider swath of modern knowledge. Which is why I claim to be a Liberal.
