You think the Europeans believe they have far more in common with Saddam? It would surprise me, but if that is what they are thinking, then the Europeans sure have gone off the deep end. Of course, we've certainly strayed from the "world's friend" image we used to have too. This whole world is a much scarier place than it used to be.

No, that's not what I meant. What I meant was that the Europeans were not thwarting the US for the sake of thwarting. They wanted to take a more measured approach. Bush was unwilling. In addition, he was rude about it........he only consulted them after he was having trouble selling his Iraqi agenda. Naturally, they were offended. However, their position re. Iraq was genuine and I believe the right one.
