I have heard that the divorce ratio is about the same. But the Mormon families I have known have stuck together

They believe that you're "joined" in eternity with your (first) spouse. So if you divorce and remarry, in the afterlife you're separated from your wife and stuck in eternity with your ex. Now THAT is an incentive! :)
