You're going to be against this one TJ! Indonesia's old school values

Indonesia's president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has made a big effort since taking office last year to present a reformist face to the outside world to lure back the foreign capital that fled the country following the Asian crisis.

But if he seems like a breath of fresh air outside the archipelago, at home he's emerging as something of a party-pooping throwback.

The retired general this year railed against women exposing their navels in a bid to be fashionable. The trend, he warned, was one of many "things that lead to pornography".

This should not worry the Indonesian leader. The country is too hot, airconditioning is expensive and any means to cool down is welcome. Theu should as well make skirts shorter to coolo even more!!! With the added benefit of saving on fabric!

And in his latest lecture on social mores, Yudhoyono offered on Sunday that couples who lived together out of wedlock were engaging in a "disgraceful" lifestyle influenced by foreigners.

This is also something of minor importance. The young people are just saving on rent, TJ!!b>

"There is no need to copy the lifestyles of foreign countries," Yudhoyono was quoted as saying by state news agency Antara. "Let's protect and cherish the nation's principles and values."

Yes, TJ, Indonesia doesn't have too much problems. That why he has to worry about this!! b>

Presumably, one has to look back beyond the dictator Suharto and his kleptocracy, and past the slaughter in East Timor and other parts of the archipelago to determine what those values are.

That one was below the belt, TJ!!b>
