Mikey buckled in front of the Roman Catholics as well so that care of Gay Aids Patients and Birth Control were put into the hands of the Catholic Church.. Peter in fairness you make this sound like an Ontario hospital wide issue... Mount Sinai ? Sick Kids...

No Wellesley in Toronto, but here in St Catharines we have had no end of problems because we have a Roman Catholic Hospital. At one point they were going to build 2 seperate hospitals with one parking lot..... In a City of 120,000 people we didn't really need 2 Hospitals, and never really got enough money to support either one. And it was an Ontario wide issue. Mike Harris was threatened by the Archbishop in St Catharines that if he closed the Hotel Dieu in St Catharines he would never ever be able to elect another Conservative. He was told outright that they would take it to the pulpit on the day the closing of the Hospital was announced. Why do you think Wellesley was given to St Mikes???? It made no sense to give the Hospital that did abortions and provided sex counselling to the Downtown core to be run by the Catholics. Mike knew he screwed up. It was the right move politically, but other than religious pressure there was no reason not to close St Mikes and give management to the Wellesley hospital...... And the right move would have been to keep The Wellesley Programs...........

Anyway the school she would have gone to in lieu had she not continued in French immersion is (her words not mine) a rich school. Those kids get to go on all kinds of neat trips.. (skiing etc..) I wonder who pays for all those extras and I wonder if those same folks get to have any effect on policy ?

I think it is a fairness policy. If you don't have a lot of "poor kids" then the teachers can arrange these trips. As far as I know, the parents pay for the trips......Thus if there are many kids who are on assistance no one gets to go........ Schools get a break on hotels and stuff, and it is good for the kids......
