By now this country has been through so many criminal investigations of govt officials-watergate, Iran-Contra and the clintons-that several generations should either be highly educated as to the nuances of investigative practice and the subtleties of executive privilege, obstruction of justice and grand jury procedure that we will either be sharp enough not to be fooled by the legal hair-splitting that's about to come, or so completely inured to it that the Bushistas will manage to wiggle out from under it all. It's a very close call. We going to need a smoking gun here.
