We were getting an early start back home and went to a station to fill up with gas. As we were getting ready to pull back onto the feeder road, there was some traffic coming so we were sitting still when another car was coming in to get gas and was hit by the guy behind him which sent him plowing into us. Thank goodness we were not injured, but damaged the left front wheel and was not drivable. I called Triple A to come to our rescue, but with the holiday, there were no flatbed trucks available so we had to wait while they tried to find one in Louisiana. Had to sit in the heat of the day for nearly four hours with our car when they called us back and said they could not haul our car and us to Houston until four o'clock the next morning. By that time we were over heated and the young man who owned the flatbed truck came and picked us up in his personal car and took us back to the hotel we were staying in. They let us stay another night. With that kind of luck, later last night, we decided to go back into the casino cause our luck could get no worse and it was well worth that visit. Paid for our trip and covered our losses the day before. Triple A picked us up at the hotel this morning and we picked up our car and headed home. The driver we had owned his own wrecker company and was such a nice young man and so interesting to speak with, so the ride home was good. He said he was personally driving us home as he was really upset that we had to wait so long and said he intended to put in a complaint on his own and my husband said he would also write one. If we had not had Triple A though, we probably might still have been there for the day, as we talked with others whose cars had broken down and they could not even get a rental car. The police made us move out of the filling station drive so they called a wrecker to move us two doors away that was closed for the day and they gouged us good. The city wreckers are on a rotation list and the wrecker driver said that is the normal fee to haul a block or a mile. So today my words are good examples of what I need. My description could be a little more artistic, but the compassion is there and so is my gratitude. Hope the insurance companies feel some compassion and gratitude we were not injured and it will cost them a bundle to fix our car and pay for the towing fee we had to expend. My husband thinks they may total it as the wheel was severely damaged as well as the left fender panel and front bumper. We have owned this car since 1981 new. Also, this is the first time we have been on the road on any holiday in years, but it was just a freak accident in our opinion. We were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Thank goodness we were in a very heavy car and had seat belts on. Tomorrow is a new day for us and I intend to get busy on this office of mine for sure. Within a couple of days, I should have the cleanest office in town. Yeeehaw! We think God is Good and was watching over us!...Amen.
