Ah, but as you point out, Altamont IS unique. It is the only close-to-sea-level entrance between the cool Pacific Ocean and the hot California Central Valley for 500 miles either way. And that Central Valley is only particularly hot part of the year- -in the summer. I don't think you can find 499 more Altamonts in the US. You will find a few more, though. One is between LA and Palm Springs where there is is another wind turbine farm.

Other power sources are also possible, such as solar. Good solar power is dependent on clear skies and hot sun. Other sources will have to be found for much of the world, such as much of Europe. Biodiesel is a possibility. That, of course, releases greenhouse gases (CO2).

Shorted CSCO, which mindmeld would probably not approve of. :-)
