Hi Al,
There are terrorists and then there are terrorists. Some say americans during the rev war used terror to achieve their goals. Hamas and the Pals fight a nationalist war against israel and like all good warriors in history they use religion to justify their goals. Israel too fights a nationalist war for the same land and some rt wing Jews and evangelical christians talk about the promised land.
MY point has been regarding Hamas that in a nationalist war, settlemeents can be reached. Northern Ireland has similarities. The problem with hamas is that they have engaged in horrific actions that are beyond the pale. The Israelis have followed tried and true law and custom but have nevertheless become occupiers--also not a good thing.
Now we have a power vacuum of sorts in Palestine. Abu Mazen cant kill Hamas but he can coopt it and lengthent the truce which some day might become permanent. The israelis have no choice but to hope it works out regardless of what they say.
In the end there will be a negotiated settlement or the israelis will impose one and leave a good deal of the west bank. Thus its in the Pals interests to communicate.
Al quaeda has no interests other than to destroy the west and all of the worlds other religions including the shiaa branch of islam regardless of any tacitical deals they make. Those are the dudes we must concentrate on as well as iran which has its own terrorist and wmd ambitions. Mike

PS "not everything published on hard right or anti-Canadian sites is not necessarily true." too negatives but i get your drift and agree with it. I just posted something something that left out a not and screwed up my intent. We should share more.

Alastair,

I hadn't really seen a big number of anti-Canadian sites :-)

However, while that site is a bit right-wing, it popped up first in google and immediately proved you wrong.

You claimed it was illegal since 1995 and now in defense of my 2002 Chretian quote are saying it was clearly illegal in 2001, except for its charitable work.

And btw a few months after October 15, 2001 is 2002.

What are you actually trying to say?

John
