Rather's story was true though. He did not retract the facts in it. And I'll bet you it was a Karl Rove dirty trick, setting Rather up with some phony documents just to discredit what most people already knew was true, Bush used family conn ections to avoid the war and split early. Otherwise, how did the rightwing blogs immediately know the documents weren't real? Yep, Rove's dirty fingerprints are all over that one. Rove is an evil genius. The smearvets, framing Dan Rather, setting up the author of "Fortunate Son", planting the phony listening device in his office and blaming his opponent, calling the FBI on opponents, getting innocent people thrown in jail, using religious right foot soldiers to smear John McCain, Max Cleland and John Kerry. Now let's see if he can get out of this treason charge. If anyone in US politics today deserves a long prison term it's Rove.
