"Listen to the stunning silence about Dick Durbin"

Durbin said some stupid things...then was forced to eat crow...and did so in a very humiliating manner. It was all over the press. Didn't you see it? Like most stupid statements, it got said, was apologized for and then its time to move on.

Karl Rove may or may not have done something much worse than Durbin...if he did do something wrong, even if he did not know it was wrong, he needs to fess up.

This is serious stuff. I'm tired of all the "fair game" nonsense. Why has it taken this long for all of this to see the light of day? If Rove did screw up, and has sat on it this long...that is wrong in itself.

Nonsense. This is a FEDERAL PROSECUTOR recommended by a Republican Senator.

Durbin was lambasted FOR TELLING THE TRUTH. He never should have apologized. What, you think our military policy should go so far off the tracks? How many convictions have they gotten?

Has Cheney apologize for his inappropriate comments? Has Santorum?

Progressives have dignity. Rightwingers have only greed.

"...Fitzgerald, 44, is the special prosecutor investigating the leak of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame's name to columnist Robert Novak. The gifted son of an Irish doorman makes no bones about challenging the establishment. His office is also prosecuting former Illinois governor George Ryan and loyal associates of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley on influence-peddling and corruption charges....

Fitzgerald is careful to be apolitical in his targets and his public life alike. He registered to vote as an Independent in New York, only to discover, when he began receiving fundraising calls, that Independent was a political party. He re-registered with no affiliation, as he did later in Chicago.

He spit fire last year when reporters asked whether the racketeering indictment of Muhammad Hamid Khalil Salah, a fundraiser for the Islamic militant group Hamas, was timed to boost President Bush's reelection campaign. The case was trumpeted first by Attorney General John Ashcroft....

Not only has the liberal editorial page sliced into Fitzgerald, but conservative columnist William Safire called Fitzgerald a "runaway Chicago prosecutor" and warned that a pair of his investigations are "this generation's gravest threat to our ability to ferret out the news."...

"They successfully demonized Newt, and Trent, and they are hoping to do the same again. Democrat politicians are not held to the same standard. Listen to the stunning silence about Dick Durbin."

The structures that resulted from social movements of the 60's 70's and 80's were very powerful at the time. I haven't heard anything from the N.O.W. lately and they were at the top of their game then. The current rise of conservative structures is a direct result of 1) The conservative agenda is purposeful and productive, 2) The values of the right wing are clear and definable, 3) Voters move away from pointless character assassination and nastiness (from both the object of the attacks and the attackers) 4) The left wing is wallowing in negative politics without a clear principle centered alternative for people to grab onto.

"Listen to the stunning silence about Dick Durbin."

5) Where as the conservative movement is getting results the liberal finger pointers lack credibility. They even decided to be anti-gay when they suspected someone in the white house of being gay.

So, the stock pile of political prestige put in place over the last 4 decades is rapidly being depleted with no efforts to rebuild. That is too bad because there is a great deal of important liberal work that needs to be done. Looks like at some point they will need to rebuild from scratch.
