This building will not come down,” says Larry Silverstein. “I can tell you further that this is also a green building, and I can tell you further that it has the latest in technology, so tenants who need the latest in technology can find it all here.” “The purpose of the cantered surface is to reflect the rays of the sun. Depending on the time of the day, the elevation of the sky, the season of the year, the suns rays would reflect off the cantered surface and come up behind the glass protruding behind it. The end result is it gives the building a bluish hue as you stand away from it and look at it from the exterior. It's quite distinctive and very beautiful.” “What you can see is the span which is completely column-free, extending from the building’s core to the curtain wall, and by virtue of this column-free space the tenants will utilize this area in a multitude of ways. It provides for the maximum efficiency, the maximum floor efficiency.” “What we opted to do as a result of 9/11 is to eliminate the plaster board, the wall board, and instead use concrete - reinforced concrete - 12,000 pound of concrete, which is the densest form of concrete that you can pour. These concrete walls which surround our core are two feet in thickness, and every floor is impregnated with 70 tons of steel reinforcing bars.” “So the elevators are protected, the stairs are protected, the sprinkler standpipes are protected, communications are protected. What you have here is a core that will not come down. The safety that comes from that is huge. And then if you'll come with me to the stairwells, you'll see that the stairs themselves are 20 percent wider than code requires.” “You'll also notice you're standing on a platform that is 20 percent wider than code requires. The purpose there is to have people in chairs be in a smoke-free environment, because these stairways are both pressurized and smoke purged. So we've gone through every conceivable step to safeguard the people in this building. From a technology standpoint it's the latest, and from an environmental standpoint it's the latest.” “The Freedom Tower itself will be located right at the corner of West Street and Vesey, and will extend south to Fulton Street. And Fulton Street will once again come through the center of the main site by virtue of the decision to re-impose the grid plan on the master site.” Silverstein Properties will occupy the 38th floor of the building. The company is currently talking to several other former tenants and new ones about leasing space in 7 World Trade Center, but so far no one has signed on. Silverstein says they do expect to have leases signed by the time the building is scheduled to open in March of next year. ny1.com
