Semiconductor Devices Earnings Preview: Prepared for Upbeat Q3 Guidance - WR Hambrecht

After a fairly weak H1 of the year, which was still impacted by high levels of inventory in the channel on the consumer side and below seasonal demand on the communications side, WR Hambrecht notes it is upbeat on the H2 of the year as demand is picking up and inventory has largely been worked off. In addition, visibility in the channels on both the wireless and the wireline sides has improved and therefore the firm expects that overall Q3 earnings calls will have an upbeat tone. The PC industry continues to track well within seasonal trends. The firm's favorite names in its research coverage universe into earnings are DSP Group, Inc. (DSPG), M-Systems Flash Disk Pioneers (FLSH), Sirenza Microdevices (SMDI), and PowerDsine Ltd. (PDSN). Overall for Q3, the firm is most positive on NOR flash, DRAM, handsets and PoE and are more cautious on the NAND flash market heading into the weak summer.
