With O'Connor's retirement from the US supreme court, the Republican counter-revolution sees the chance of a lifetime They already got their chance of a lifetime with 9/11, which will go down as enabling the most successful seize the moment power grab in modern history. The sad fact though is that Democrats, and people who believe in a secular, tolerant and progressive government in general are far too apathetic to make any difference against people with the kind of determination that the Christian Right has. And the coming oil crisis (only a matter of time), the coming US dollar currency crisis (again only a matter of time), more terrorism on US soil on the way (not if but when), all this kind of stuff plays extremely well into the hands of religious extremists. People will just have to get used to it.
