btw, I am a Muslim, so I am sorry if you misinterpreted my comments to be similar to longnshorts position. Terrorists are criminals of the most criminal sort, since there is no body of sane law any where in the world written now or in the past, or existing in the hearts of humanity that can do anything but condemn their actions; they are a very small percentage and not representative of the 1.4Billion population of Muslims.

This treatment of a handful of extremists as unelected, unacknowledged representatives of over a billion people is absurd. Bush should never have elevated OBL into a war criminal, he should have made him what he is: a pathetic criminal who resorts to killing strangers because he doesn't get what he wants in life. It's an old Soviet trick: label a dissident as crazy and the dissident's support dries up. After all, who wants to follow a crazy person? Terrorism exists because IT WORKS. It gets the headlines, it gets the hysteria, it gets the paranoia, it gets the government actions. A small group of people gets to push around the rest of the world because WE LET IT. If terrorism is seen as a criminal activity and the terrorists seen as mere criminals (better yet, as pathetic) instead of as martyrs or warriors, terrorism becomes unpopular. The world's approach to it makes absolutely no sense if governments want to kill terrorism. Terrorism is PR. Why are we encouraging it?
