When I went into town to shop and get my mocha yesterday, I bumped into Syracuse, who was just headed out to the guys' new property; closed on it 3 days ago. I hadn't seen it yet, so I followed him out. Beautiful piece of land, 270 acres split off of what used to be the Hunt (yeah, those Hunts) Ranch. (Don't ask, but it was $700K) Once we left the highway, and started up their road, we passed a recently planted 10 acre blueberry patch. I'll be really interested in watching it develop. Their biggest neighbor is 4000 acres; there are a few small ones around them on the other sides, and one parcel between them and a big BLM holding. Further up, once we hit their place, Cruz stopped to show me the view; across the valley from the Hog Farm; I was picking out friends' houses over there. Very clean piece of property. Hasn't been logged or burned in at least 40 years. The forest floors look natural, rather than like man had been there before. No old cars, either, but 3 fairly brand new shipping containers and a small structure the size of a doll house, where the owner stayed some times. Lots of pasture (enuf for a few meat producing animals), lots of forest; more diversified than mine; lots of pines and tan oaks, besides various oaks, fir, and madrone. It has 3 creeks; a nice sized year round one from which the Department of Fish and Game will only let them withdraw 600 gal/day, an almost year round one, and a rainy season one. There is a 12 GPM well on the property, too. Nicely maintained roads; the previous owner wouldn't even drive up there when the ground was wet; Cruz said he was very anal. The place is very close, by back roads, to the place Hanabal ad his gal bought last spring. They need to work out an easement with a neighbor to do it; won't be a problem, cuz the neighbor has his access road , fence, and half his garden on their property :>) Cruz also is working on a house; the last time he went back to Utah with Heather, he found a pre-fab log cabin for cheeeep; the guy who ordered it & walked away from it had a 30K deposit down (apparently his wife died), so Cruz got it like half price. Sez it will cost about $700 for freight. They are going to have to clear some trees, wherever they put it, but they will have one hellacious view;or 2. They will put in a big solar set-up; there is power near by, but the cost of running wires would be pretty high. I keep on talkin' "creek", but it is a good distance from the home sites; solar will do. They are still talking about getting a biodiesel manufacturing business going. Oh, dem kids.
