Sympathy aside for the London victims, what is so special or surprising about it? The Brits wanted to pick a fight and they got it. Did they think they'd never get a bloody nose?

Understanding your enemy is one of the great first steps on the way to defeating them. Many of the great defeats of history occurred because an enemy was misunderstood, or because an overconfident power miscalculated. Understanding an enemy is not the same as sympathizing with them. I wish people understood that. It is dangerous to promote ignorance as patriotism.
