The fact is, in answer to Bob's complaint, we already do understand Al-Qaeda terrorists... well, people who want to do.

They are not the representatives of mainstream Islam, that should be obvious to everyone but die hard bigots. They are not like the PLO or the IRA terrorists who wanted a seat at the table ... they want to blow the table up.

There is an obvious course of history for the society of the world that tracks the many struggles by people to be liberated from tyrants, liberated from oppressive dogma, to be liberated from unjust social order, while seeking greater autonomy in their individual lives of peaceful coexistence with others. The Islamo Terrorists gave up on continuing that struggle. They are in the process of destroying society so the can start from scratch and rebuild anew. They see them selves as the Arc commanding the rains. I believe they are wrong and must be stopped.

No one is NYC expected to get "hit" because there was no conflict. Madrid did not expect to get hit, although there were danger signs. London did not expect to get "hit" any more than the other two cities. This is not a war between London and Baghdad. The war is a wicked game of terror by the fundamentalists against the Muslims they are trying to control. They extend the terror to outside groups who attempt to cooperate with these Muslim nations. What gives these extremists any right to impose their delusional vision of Wahhab over moderate groups of Muslims? Why won't anyone stand up for the rights of the Muslims that are being killed everyday by the extremists?

The circle of violence is endless. If you want to reach back 12 centuries to justify the jihad against the crusaders in London, be my guest. You had better not be so sensitive when I tell you to kiss my ass. At the end of the day, your ambivalence about Muslim extremists is a real problem. They are destroying the normal lives of people around the world. To put an answer to your absurd question, Muslims have killed more Muslims. Sad point of fact. More sad that the average Muslim blames the Christians and Jews for the inter Muslim conflict that is ripping apart the ME.
