Even if you get some facts from them (a risk you take since they may or may not have any), how much value is that to you once you have sacrificed your own humanity to get it?

Let's see: I got the facts on where the secret box is hidden, and I am left with nothing of value to live for, having committed the worst possible crime against humanity.

By the way, I have qualified my position to be against torture of a prisoner with the assumption that the prisoner is subdued, and that is the only way the term 'torture' seems sensible to me.

I would consider a prisoner with his finger on the button (literally or in the sense of withholding information) to be an active agent of violence, from which I am entitled to defend myself and others. But that is a complex problem not the simple one we assume when discussing torture of prisoners.
