If you are looking for an analogy (and you may not be)- a fetus seems to be closest in kind to a victim of brain damage (not brain death) who might or might not recover- and an abortion is akin to the family "unplugging" that victim from life support. Obviously, in both cases, if the person survives unplugging they live, and if they do not survive, they die.

In both cases the human life is a potentially self sufficient life only, and not actually self sufficient until separated from life support- machine or womb.

They are all just cells with an evolutionary history.
