Yup, hence my reference to Uzbekistan where Bush is doing exactly what he blames past presidents for doing...

One that bothers me is Russia/Chechnya. At first the Administration complained about Russian oppression of Chechnya. That evolved over a short period of time to our good friends the Russians who were fighting terrorism in Chechnya. The Russians haven't been cooperative of late, so the Administration may flip back to oppression. Situational morality. Neocons prefer to call it pragmatism so it doesn't sound so arbitrary.

‘20 sentenced for religious extremism in Uzbekistan’

TASHKENT: A court in the Uzbek capital has sentenced 20 men to prison terms of between five and 17½ years on charges of extremism and participation in last year’s bombings that killed dozens of people, a human rights activist said Friday.

Surat Ikramov, who heads the Rights Defenders Initiative Group, claimed that the closed-door trial in Tashkent, which concluded Thursday, was rigged. He said prosecutors provided no details or evidence of the men’s alleged involvement during the trial, citing several of the men’s relatives who attended.

“Their guilt was not proven and the whole case was fabricated,” Ikramov told The Associated Press. “All of them testified at the trial they were tortured during interrogation.” Ikramov also said a co-worker managed to sneak into several sessions prior to the sentencing even though media and rights groups were barred from the trial proceedings.

More than 200 people have already been jailed in connection with last year’s attacks, in which bombers detonated explosives outside embassies in Tashkent. The ex-Soviet republic clamped down on Muslims after the violence, which killed more than 50 people and was blamed on Al Qaeda-linked groups. ap

Yup, hence my reference to Uzbekistan where Bush is doing exactly what he blames past presidents for doing; supporting a thug who gives him whatever he wants in exchange for being in power.

Things may be changing...
