Hope you had a good weekend.

>> Last time I checked, Westerners were not killing their own people.

Say what?! And how did you get that lesson from Western history? Oklahoma, L.A. Riots, Northern Ireland, WWII, WWI... The only difference is that over the past 5 years the west has primarily focused its killing abroad and provided enough prosperity for its people inside so we are not running around killing each other and instead are content to killing foreigners.

>> world will be a safer place with a more stable ME including Iran.

The world will be a safer place when we all become less selfish and greedy and give others the same rights as we'd like for ourselves. The people in the middle east, like the people everywhere, blame their government for the shortcomings of their country. The difference is that in America policy is a function of mostly internal forces, but out there policy is also subject of approval by USA. As a result the anger and hatred that is directed towards their own regimes also gets directed towards America. It is as simple as that.

>> Saudi Arabia is the root of all Wahhab and Salafi indoctrination. They are best left to themselves.

Everybody is best left to themselves. Natural course of events will see to it that either they will learn the path or perish. Here is an example on personal scale for you: gays should be allowed to marry and live as they wish. This is not because I approve of homosexuality, but because the same principle that states they can't tell me to lube my anus prevents me from telling them what to do with theirs. Same thinking goes for nations.

>> I can only speak about the moderate virtues of Egypt from the sources that I read about today. I'm glad they have always resisted militant Islam. I'm not sure that many people would be able to understand this historically, moderate position.

Political Islam, like all other forms of political organizations, is an affront to the totalitarian regimes in ME. This is why it is banned in all its forms, including its extremist versions.

>> The real conundrum will be overturned when the Sunni majority decides that it does not want to let the terrorists represent their interests.

Terrorism is a fighting method of the weak against the strong. When the weak believe they are protected and can achieve prosperity without the need for fight, they will stop resorting to terrorism.

>> I think the removal of SH was an effective strategy to bring the most amount of stability to the Sunni Afghans and the Shi'a Iraqis.

I think indigenous people rather than US Marines should decide their own destiny. Keep a log of what and how you've been thinking and in 10 years examine it to see how and why you've been right/wrong.
