Phil,

The job transfer part makes no sense. Chartered is a foundry, and # of AMD employees there would be 10s at best (IMO). AMD would somehow have to purchase part of the new Chartered fab, for the rank and file employees to be AMD employees, which has never been a plan.

Also, my understanding is that AMD would fab out production only for the excess demand, over the Dresden capacity. I don't know it would make much sense to leave Dresden (or portion of the fabs there idle and produce at fundry.

It may be, as you said, just part of Schroeder's political campaign to make it look like he is saving jobs in East Germany...
