I think the London bombings prove that it is extraordinarily easy for someone to leave a timed device on a train, get off and then wait for the result. Most people would do nothing if they noticed a package sitting on the floor of a train during rush hour....even if they were alarmed what could they do? pull the emergency cord and risk fines etc? What if we were to screen commuters the same way we do airline travellers? think of the delays..public transit would become a huge aggravation. I used to live in London but these bombs could have been placed on any subway in any city with the same outcome. All one can do is get at these murderers (they are not terrorists, a term that implies they have some kind of agenda) before they strike. Convicted murderers in this context should be subject to automatic, immediate, capital punishment under federal law

I would go a step further. I would close National Airport. If it were to be used at all I would reserve it for emergencies.

There are now two major airports, Baltimore and Dulles Airports---these are fairly accessible by the population.

If another airport is needed then I would build another.

There was talk some time ago of closing National because of its proximity to Washington. Also, after we had one major accident that landed people in the Potomac near the Roosevelt Bridge-----people became more aware and concerned about the approach and takeoff patterns of National.

There is the other side of the coin--------the terrorists want us to change our way of living. So, this might be giviing in
to the terrorists-----and letting them change the freedom we believe in.
