Upon reflection it was less a guilt thing and perhaps more just wanting to help. When I took the position the DOW was about 10500 and I had the DOW going to 9000 regardless. The extra 1000 points worth of profits went to the RC.

MC, I fully agree with you. A person who takes a bearish position based on an analysis of the markets does nothing wrong. Bad things tend to come in "clusters", and if the bearish analysis is correct, there are increased odds that other things in the world will go wrong and exacerbate the drop in the markets. Nothing unethical about that - as far as that trader is concerned.

However - I wish I could call this example Reductio ad absurdum - but unfortunately in our world this possibility is not entirely unthinkable -- Let's say, a nuclear device explodes in a major population center. What is our bear going to feel about this situation, which is totally hellish - and yet, may have made him rich?

I think there is plenty to be thorn about.... and maybe donating profits to the help effort would be a good step.

.....I hope this remains just an empty speculation - forever.
