The bush regime, the FBI, the NSA, the CIA, the DIA, etc were all asleep at the wheel. There was a wealth of information warning of the use of airplanes to attack the US and they did nothing. Were they all just incompetent and lazy idiots? Probably many were. Did the bush regime need a boogeyman hated by all to justify his foreign wars and the massive expansion of military imperialism in the Persian Gulf and central Asia? Sure makes one wonder. I cannot recommend The Sorrows of Empire by Chalmers Johnson highly enough, it's must reading.
