Montoya wins thrilling British Grand Prix

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya had a lightening start and beat the king of the super fast starts Renault and Alonso himself.

From his third spot behind Alonso, Juan Pablo rocketed past Jenson Button. As Alonso and Montoya went into Copse (the first corner), they went side by side... it appeared that Alonso was caught by surprise and even looked as if they touched wheels as they entered the corner...

Montoya kept on attacking and made it past Alonso in the second corner Maggots. Alonso gave way to the Colombian, who took the lead an started to pull away slightly...

the battle between Alonso and Montoya intensified but the Colombian drove a faultless race, including a smart strategy that forced Alonso to drive through traffic while Juan Pablo stopped for fuel. This stopped Alonso from building a lead big enough to avoid Montoya to catch him when it came for Alonso to re-fuel.

Alonso and Montoya went side to side again as Alonso came out of the pits, however Montoya had the momentum and the warmed up tires so he never lost the lead. Alonso played smartly and settled for second place as this assured him of more points than Raikkonen who was a distant fourth at the time.

Team mate Giancarlo Fisichella was firmly in third spot, but the Italian made the exact same mistake as the one a week ago in The French Grand Prix and stalled his Renault on his second stop.

This cost the Italian third place (and a podium position) and allowed Kimi Raikkonen to take the podium and a few more points for himself and McLaren.

No doubt Signore Briattore will have a few words with Giancarlo about this... this is inexplicable as Giancarlo after his powerful win in Melbourne in the first race of the season, has simply not been able to perform well...

Kimi drove another superb race to come from 11th spot on the grid (due to his engine being replaced after it died in the first practice). While he qualified second fastest, the replaced engine penalty relegated him 10 grid places.

Still, he finished third in superb form, yet not enough to stop Alonso from gaining two more points on Kimi.

Briton Jensen Button had to settle for fifth spot in front of a huge 100,000 home crowd beating the Ferraris if M Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, who in turn came in front of the last point recipient Ralf Schumacher in his Toyota.
