I am ignorant in the practical aspects of the amphetamine world. Perhaps you or someone else can enlighten me.

What is the distinction between methamphetamine and amphetamine?

I was under the impression that amphetamines were legitimate albeit dangerous drugs used to keep awake when sleep was not an option, as in truck driving or three day patrols in Viet Nam.

Methamphetamines are illegal street or rural drugs, dangerous, and have no legitimate application.

Am I wrong?

I don't know what freebasing is. I thought it applied to cocaine, but I could be wrong.

Believe me, I am more ignorant of the illicit drug world than 99% of the population, and I'm happy to keep it that way. Unlike Bill Clinton, who made the preposterous claim that he puffed but did not inhale, I have never taken a puff, not a single one.

Crystal meth is not your typical uppers that truckers have been known to take.

Methamphetamine is an addictive stimulant drug that strongly activates certain systems in the brain. Methamphetamine is closely related chemically to amphetamine, but the central nervous system effects of methamphetamine are greater. Both drugs have some medical uses, primarily in the treatment of obesity, but their therapeutic use is limited.

Methamphetamine is made in illegal laboratories and has a high potential for abuse and dependence. Street methamphetamine is referred to by many names, such as "speed," "meth," and "chalk." Methamphetamine hydrochloride, clear chunky crystals resembling ice, which can be inhaled by smoking, is referred to as "ice," "crystal," and "glass."

The meth that people typically speak of is generally a home brewed concoction which uses ingredients such as acetone, ethyl alcohol, ammonia, red phosphorus, hydrophosphorus acid, lithium and iodine are used.

Home cooked = no controls on purity.

The people who are taking this crap are literally poisoning themselves. The people who cook it are poisoning themselves and all others in the house with them.
