I don't think so. In fact, I think that's the entire problem. Most human beings don't care to be 'free' in the political sense. Otherwise everyone would actually be involved in politics, they would campaign and they would vote. That something like 1/3rd of eligible voters in the US of A don't even bother to vote every few years shows their near complete lack of concern about who governs them. Is it ignorance, stupidity, laziness? Frankly, I think it's human nature. We obviously want to be able to choose our flavor of ice cream, our music, our dress, our occupation and such because no one fails to choose these things when given the opportunity. However, when given the opportunity to vote for governance, many don't. IMO, we're a herding, flocking species that doesn't want to think it is. We want to think we're tough individuals but instead we're almost completely influenced and pushed around by the crowd. That's why I think democracy is not that common and why it's so easy to destroy. Democracy requires individuals to think independently or it just reverts to autocracy. It goes against our nature and so we really have to work at it to keep it going. It's unnatural and, therefore, the civilized thing to do. This is what bothers me the most, why do people remain enslaved even when they're in the majority? Why don't the Chinese overthrow their government and install democracy? Why didn't the majority Shiias overthrow Saddam? Why don't ME women bop their hubbies on the head and take power? Why?
