I would say: 'the relative success of *all* free/capitalistic Western societies vs. the failed economic & social model of Communism in the Soviet Empire'... still, their Afghanistan military adventure was one of the 'final straws', emptying coffers they didn't really have, and igniting massive resistance (especially among the young of draft age) in their society.

Still, the OBL/Saudi contribution to the Afghan campaign (while likely the Saudi money did not, in the end, exceed the US money, they possibly matched our dollars devoted to the war, and began their major funding earlier then the US did) was a factor in bleeding the Soviets. Naturally OBL vastly over-states his importance... what else would you expect?
